Dublin Churches And Cathedrals As Tourist Attractions

Dubliners are religious people. This is evident in the way they revere the Almighty. There are several churches and cathedrals in Dublin that prove how rooted Dubliners faith are. These churches and cathedrals don’t only represent Dublin’s religious aspect but also its history. Most of them have been in the county for centuries.

One of the most popular church destinations in Dublin, Ireland is the Whitefriar Street Carmelite Church. Aside from being the perfect spot for religious and spiritual reflections, the Whitefriar church is also the most ideal church for romantic moments. This church houses the relics of St. Valentine, patron of lovers. Where else can you make a perfect vow of love than on the home of the patron of lovers? The church can be visited in Dublin 2.

Still in Dublin 2 is another historic church, the St. Teresa’s Church. This church has been serving the Dubliners since 1810. The sculpture beneath the altar always catches every visitor’s attention. This is the sculpture of the Dead Christ by John Hogan. Another attraction in the church are the stained glass windows. There are seven expertly crafted windows surrounding the church.

At Dublin 8 lies the historical and popular St. Patrick’s Cathedral. This is considered as the largest church in Ireland and known worldwide. The St. Patrick’s Cathedral has been in Dublin since 1190 although it has been refurbished in the 14th century. This church is considered as the national cathedral in Ireland. One of the first things that visitors will notice in this church is the number of flags and banners throughout the building. These flags were displayed in the church in memory of those patriots who have fought for Ireland.

Another popular church in Dublin 8 is the Christ Church Cathedral. To be able to have the best view of the church, you should walk to it from the river side. The church’s history dates back to 1038. Until now, the church serves as one of the most visited churches in Dublin and all throughout Ireland.

Another church that serves as tourist attraction is the St. Michan’s Church at Dublin 7. The church is a 17th century building with impressive interior. The organ in the church is said to have been played by Handel. The creepy part of the church is its underground. It is a burial place and because the area is so dry, the bodies aren’t decomposing yet even some of them were there for many years already.

These churches and cathedrals are religious houses for many Dubliners but for tourists, they are more than just a place to renew our spiritual vows, they are also excellent tourist attractions.
